St. Thomas Carnival runs for nearly a month each spring, building to a crescendo in the final days of April and early May. The festival's most electric moment is Jouvert — a pre-dawn street party that begins in darkness and ends at sunrise, with thousands of revelers covered in paint, mud, and powder dancing through the streets of Charlotte Amalie to pulsing soca and calypso. The Grand Parade follows days later, filling the waterfront with elaborate masquerade troupes, steel pan bands, and mocko jumbies on stilts.
